Product Design
For this project, we had to study a scientific subject then develop a product that could teach this topic to children. I chose to study the science of artificial limbs and how they connect to the body and brain. I had to study a combination of biology, physics, and kinesiology. I developed a pitch, a product, and a user manual to present my information to a variety of age groups. For my product, I created a doll and a diary to teach kids about how science impacts people. Additionally, I used a 3D printer to design and manufacture a prosthetic leg.
PITCH: Currently, only 24% of STEM jobs are held by women. It’s time to make a change. Something as simple as a basic introduction to STEM at a young age could open up a whole new future for girls. Bridget® is a revolutionary new doll that empowers kids while teaching them science and social acceptance. Bridget® comes with multiple accessories and a diary that documents her story. It includes codes to sites that explain the science behind her prosthesis, and awesome facts that make playing with her an educational experience! Once you bring Bridget® home, you can open her box to find a whole new world of fun! Open her diary, read her story, and browse pages of Bridget’s favorite websites and videos!
