Architectural design

The objective of this project was to design and build a functional space in the 3D architecture software Revit.  I decided to combine a tiny house and a business prompt to create a candy shop with a livable apartment space above a store. I was inspired by classic old-timey candy shops and wanted to stay true to the simple design, but also push myself to make a more interesting area.

I began with a paper sketch that laid out how I wanted my shop to look. I planned out a general area for the candy and register, an entrance, a seating area, an outdoor awning, a storage room, and a flight of stairs to go up to the loft. It was difficult to include all these elements in such a small space, but I tried several layouts until they all played well with each other.

I used Revit to lay out walls, doors, and windows. The dimensions are about 25 x 25 x 9 for each floor. I managed to figure out the software well enough to accomplish my initial goal.

It was my first time using Revit, so I had some trial and error. I was left to my own devices to figure out how to build an entire shop from scratch, which was an overwhelming feat. My biggest struggle was getting the dimensions right. However, my victories overcome my struggles and I ended up with a decent building that I am proud of.

Overall, I really enjoyed this project. I was definitely in my element with design and 3D computer software, and was able to apply what I knew about interior and exterior design to create a tangible product.
